Heather is an award-winning writer, journalist and freedom of information campaigner.

Her unprecedented five-year campaign for the full disclosure of MPs’ expenses led to a comprehensive reform of the Parliamentary expense system.

She is the author of The Revolution Will Be Digitised (2011), The Silent State (2010) and Your Right to Know (2006). Heather is a professor at City University’s Department of Journalism and a visiting lecturer in contemporary history at University East Anglia, where she is overseeing a lecture series on propaganda, power and the press for the new ThoughtOut project. She is also a regular contributor to a wide range of newspapers and television programmes.
