Parents take school to court after student punished for using AI
Parents are suing a school in Massachusetts after a student was punished for using AI in a class project.
The student admitted using AI for a social studies project, but claimed it was only for research. They were marked down and given a detention. The parents claim this will negatively impact their college and university applications.
The school, however, argues that its student handbook states that attendees should not use AI tools for in-class examinations, writing assignments, homework, or classwork unless explicitly permitted and instructed. They also allege the student did not cite the use of AI, and that it was "cutting corners ... in order to gain an advantage."
