As Kenya faces a teacher shortage, educators are experimenting with AI tools such as Kalasik, which uses models from OpenAI.

The country lacks nearly 100,000 teachers and large classroom sizes are normal, but AI has freed up the time teachers previously spent writing lesson plans, allowing them to focus more on students.

However, many areas lack internet access, and there are concerns that children who do will have an unfair advantage over others.

There are also concerns that money spent on EdTech tools could be used to fund more teachers and improve infrastructure, while AI remains liable to flaws such as hallucinations.
