Italy enacts AI law covering privacy, oversight and child access
The Italian government has passed new laws regulating artificial intelligence, becoming the first European Union country with regulations aligned with the EU's AI Act.
The law regulates healthcare, work, public administration, justice, education and sport, requiring traceability and human oversight of AI decisions
Children under the age of 14 will now require parental consent to use AI.
Unlawful dissemination of AI-generated content, such as deepfakes, will also now be punishable by between one to five years in prison if it causes harm.
