AI counselors used in schools raise concerns
Hundreds of schools use a tool called 'Alongside' - an AI system that monitors student's mental health. Alongside is just one of a similar tranche of tools that have become increasingly popular with school districts.
Some argue that these tools allow stretched schools to provide support despite resource limitations, while others argue that there are significant risks presented by these systems, including to student's mental health, which are not subject to the same privacy rules as actual human therapists.
