Opt-out study involving bodyworn cameras in classrooms to train AI cancelled
A study that intended to record pre-school classrooms - including using body worn cameras on teachers - and using the footage to train an AI to assess teacher's interactions with students.
The study was cancelled after significant backlash from parents. The researchers attempted to use opt-out consent, meaning parents would have to explicitly say no rather than opting in. It was not made clear what difference parents opting their children out would look like and whether it would mean children would not be recorded.
