Facial Recognition to be tested in Victoria, Australia independent school
Schools in Victoria in Australia have started a 6-week trial of facial recognition devices in order to provide real time attendance data. Sacred Heart College - a Catholic girls school - have written to parents ahead of implementing the systems in their Year 11 classes.
However, the Department for Education in the state claim to not be aware of the trial in this school or any other in the state, and at least one student speaking to KidsNews raised concerns over being monitored, and questioned the value of the trial given the limited amount of time taken to take a register.
