Privacy Group Challenges Facial Recognition in Serbian Schools

Partners Serbia said it had submitted several requests to Serbia’s Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection to investigate alleged violations of privacy and data protection laws by public authorities. The organisation highlighted concerns about the growing use of surveillance technologies and other practices involving excessive collection of personal data by government bodies.

One of the complaints focused on municipalities and cities that had acquired equipment with facial recognition capabilities and installed it in primary schools. Partners Serbia argued that the use of such technology on children raises serious legal and privacy concerns, describing it as one of the most significant potential violations of Serbia’s personal data protection framework.
