Open letter asks Karnataka not to implement facial recognition in schools
Karnataka's Department of School, Education, and Literacy have been asked to roll back their new initiative to use a new facial recognition system to track student's attendance, and beneficiaries for free school lunches and other government welfare schemes. The system would cover 52,686 schools and would monitor 525,500 students.
The People's Alliance for Fundamental Right to Education - who convened the letter - raised concerns that the surveillance would make children more vulnerable rather than protecting them.
