PI exists to protect people’s privacy, dignity and freedoms from abuses by companies and governments. We create concrete change today so that freedom and privacy will be foundations of tomorrow's societies.

Technology must empower and enable us, and not exploit our data for profit or power. We want a world where people are in control of how their data is used, free from exploitation, and in control of their lives.

Governments and companies have immense powers over people's lives. Only systemic change can check their power and hold them to account. Through our strategic work we build a better future where:

1. Companies and industries protect privacy by design, not exploit people and their data.
2. Technologies, laws, and policies contain modern safeguards to protect people from exploitation.
3. Governments uphold and extend the rule of law, to protect human rights as technology changes.
4. People and communities can protect their data and rights, resist and object to exploitation by governments and industry.
5. A global movement, empowered people and groups across the world holding the powerful to account.
6. There is a universal rights framework that protects people everywhere.
