Martin Scheinin
Martin Scheinin is Guest Professor of international human rights law at Lund University (Sweden) and part-time professor at the European University Institute (Italy). He has served as member of the UN Human Rights Committee, UN Special Rapporteur on human rights and counterterrorism and member of the Scientific Committee of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency. As academic scholar, he has run several multi-annual research projects related to the right to privacy, including the EU-funded project SURVEILLE on the ethics, law and utility of surveillance technologies and a recent British Academy Global Professorship project on human rights challenges of the digital age and the capacity of international human rights law to respond. His involvement in the ongoing EU-funded project ELOQUENCE entails leading the assessment of emerging AI technologies for their compatibility with human rights.
